About Us

OUR HISTORY

The Pleasant River Lake Association was formed during a meeting of “40 to 50 people” on August 26, 1973.  Officers were elected at that time and a committee established “to develop a set of By-laws to be presented to the group at large for their comments and/or corrections”. These were completed and distributed to camp lot owners and later passed as read at the second annual meeting on August 31, 1974.

A Pleasant River Lake Association Newsletter was also published on a periodic basis listing the Association’s accomplishments, problems being addressed, new state and local laws and other general information of interest to the Association members.

WHO WE ARE

The Pleasant River Lake Association is a nonprofit corporation that brings about a spirit of cooperation among the lakeshore owners and its neighbors to benefit residents. Since 1973, the PRLA mission has been to protect, conserve and enhance the environs of Pleasant River Lake for present and future generations. The associaton:

  • support the monitoring of lake quality through water testing.
  • offers educational programs that provide members with information on keeping our lake and the surrounding land healthy.
  • tackle issues resulting from an aging dam.
  • support an Emergency Response Team.
  • invest in the training and equipment for emergencies on the lake such as fires and accidents.
  • work with area emergency response teams and the towns of Beddington and Deblois to help respond to a crisis on the lake.
  • maintain an authorized Life Flight Landing Zone on the East Pleasant River Lake Road.
  • work with the Maine Department of Forestry to protect our woodlands and properties.
  • monitor the loon population and participate in the annual Maine Audubon Society loon count.
  • maintain and improve our roads (in conjunction with Beddington Road Maintenance Association and the Pleasant River Lake Homeowners Association) so that access to camps are available to all, allows emergency vehicles access to the lake and the surrounding forest, and prevents erosion and pollution from entering our lake.
  • track annual ice-out dates.

Membership

Membership to PRLA is open to any property owner along the shores of Pleasant River Lake and its surrounding area.

If you swim, boat, fish or simply believe our lake is worth saving for future generations, please join the Pleasant River Lake Association (PRLA). The PRLA is the most powerful tool we have in keeping our lake healthy and protecting our property values. Together, united in a mission to preserve the lake we love, we can be a force that supports lake health.

Without money raised by association dues, the work of protecting our lake and ensuring access could not be done. At a nominal cost, we all share in the cost of stewardship. Your commitment and support to this endeavor is needed and it is hoped that you will join us in this mission by joining the Pleasant River Lake Association. Being a member of PRLA gives you a voice and a place to take action in the preserving of the area where your camp is located.
